--- name: coquille-casting-worker description: "Occupational skill for the role 'coquille casting worker' (also: caster, coquille caster, coquille casting workers, foundry sand moulders, foundry coremakers, foundry caster). Use when the user asks for typical coquille casting worker work such as: Clean and smooth molds, cores, and core boxes, and repair surface imperfections.; Move and position workpieces, such as mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards, using cranes, or signal others to move workpieces.; Sprinkle or spray parting agents onto patterns and mold sections to facilitate removal of patterns from molds." --- # Coquille Casting Worker Coquille casting workers manufacture castings, including pipes, tubes, hollow profiles and other products of the first processing of steel, by operating hand-controlled equipment in a foundry. They conduct the flow of molten ferrous and non-ferrous metals into coquilles, taking care to create the exact right circumstances to obtain the highest quality metal. They observe the flow of metal to identify faults. In case of a fault, they notify the authorised personnel and participate in the removal of the fault. ## Core workflow 1. Clean and smooth molds, cores, and core boxes, and repair surface imperfections. 2. Move and position workpieces, such as mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards, using cranes, or signal others to move workpieces. 3. Sprinkle or spray parting agents onto patterns and mold sections to facilitate removal of patterns from molds. 4. Position patterns inside mold sections, and clamp sections together. 5. Position cores into lower sections of molds, and reassemble molds for pouring. 6. Sift and pack sand into mold sections, core boxes, and pattern contours, using hand or pneumatic ramming tools. 7. Cut spouts, runner holes, and sprue holes into molds. 8. Lift upper mold sections from lower sections, and remove molded patterns. ## How to use this skill - Read [references/profile.md](references/profile.md) for the occupation profile and scope. - Consult [references/tasks.md](references/tasks.md) for the full task and activity inventory. - Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences. - Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role. ## Key competences (essential) - assemble metal parts - ensure coquille uniformity - extract products from coquilles - handle metal work orders - insert coquille structures - maintain coquille parts - move filled coquilles - repair coquille defects - select coquille types - troubleshoot ## Hot technologies - Autodesk AutoCAD - Dassault Systemes SolidWorks --- *Sources: ESCO v1.2.1 (http://data.europa.eu/esco/occupation/123a195c-103a-4b84-b3fd-6d40dbc15c54), O*NET 30.3 (51-4071.00).
