--- name: nuclear-medicine-radiographer description: "Occupational skill for the role 'nuclear medicine radiographer' (also: nuclear medicine technologist). Use when the user asks for typical nuclear medicine radiographer work such as: Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of a physician.; Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment or cameras.; Calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription." --- # Nuclear Medicine Radiographer Nuclear medicine radiographers plan, prepare and perform nuclear medicine examinations, post-processing and treatment with a wide range of equipment and techniques using X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging and radiopharmaceuticals. ## Core workflow 1. Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of a physician. 2. Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment or cameras. 3. Calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription. 4. Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images. 5. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures. 6. Produce a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician. 7. Process cardiac function studies, using computer. 8. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. ## How to use this skill - Read [references/profile.md](references/profile.md) for the occupation profile and scope. - Consult [references/tasks.md](references/tasks.md) for the full task and activity inventory. - Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences. - Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role. - See [references/ai-skills.md](references/ai-skills.md) — matched external AI agent skills (per-source attribution). ## Key competences (essential) - adhere to organisational code of ethics - administer contrast media - administer radiopharmaceuticals - analyse X-ray imagery - apply context specific clinical competences - apply organisational techniques - apply radiation protection procedures - apply radiological health sciences - calculate exposure to radiation - communicate in healthcare - comply with legislation related to health care - comply with quality standards related to healthcare practice - conduct cancer screening tests - conduct video telemetry - contribute to continuity of health care ## Hot technologies - Microsoft Outlook - MEDITECH software - Microsoft Office software - Microsoft PowerPoint - Microsoft Excel - Microsoft Word --- *Sources: ESCO v1.2.1 (http://data.europa.eu/esco/occupation/5efb4fff-8c5f-4697-9587-034d9f6af094), O*NET 30.3 (29-2033.00).
