extrusion-machine-operator Occupational skill for the role 'extrusion machine operator' (also: extrusion operator, extruding machine technician, metal extrusion machine operator, plastic extrusion operator, extrusion press operator, extruder operating apprentice). Use when the user asks for typical extrusion machine operator work such as: Set up, operate, or tend machines that extrude and form filaments from synthetic materials such as rayon, fiberglass, or liquid polymers.; Load materials into extruding and forming machines, using hand tools, and adjust feed mechanisms to set feed rates.; Move controls to activate and adjust extruding and forming machines.

Extrusion Machine Operator

Extrusion machine operators set up, monitor and maintain machines which heat or melt raw materials, and pull or push the heated material through a shaped die to form it into a continuous profile with a preset cross section such as tubes, pipes and sheeting. They may also clean and maintain the equipment.

Core workflow

  1. Set up, operate, or tend machines that extrude and form filaments from synthetic materials such as rayon, fiberglass, or liquid polymers.
  2. Load materials into extruding and forming machines, using hand tools, and adjust feed mechanisms to set feed rates.
  3. Move controls to activate and adjust extruding and forming machines.
  4. Record details of machine malfunctions.
  5. Notify other workers of defects, and direct them to adjust extruding and forming machines.
  6. Press buttons to stop machines when processes are complete or when malfunctions are detected.
  7. Observe machine operations, control boards, and gauges to detect malfunctions such as clogged bushings and defective binder applicators.
  8. Clean and maintain extruding and forming machines, using hand tools.
