sorter-labourer Occupational skill for the role 'sorter labourer' (also: recycling site sorter labourer, grader, textile sorter, sort belt operative, recycler, recycling metal sorter). Use when the user asks for typical sorter labourer work such as: Dump refuse or recyclable materials at disposal sites.; Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition.; Refuel trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.

Sorter Labourer

Sorter labourers sort recyclable materials and waste from a recycling stream, and ensure no unsuitable materials wind up among the recyclable materials. They inspect the materials and perform cleaning duties, and work in compliance with waste regulations.

Core workflow

  1. Dump refuse or recyclable materials at disposal sites.
  2. Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition.
  3. Refuel trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.
  4. Fill out defective equipment reports.
  5. Drive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areas.
  6. Operate equipment that compresses collected refuse.
  7. Operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies.
  8. Dismount garbage trucks to collect garbage and remount trucks to ride to the next collection point.
