gauger Occupational skill for the role 'gauger' (also: oil refiner, oil gauger, oil well gauger, gager, well gauger, rig gauger). Use when the user asks for typical gauger work such as: Maintain and perform safety inspections on equipment and tools.; Listen to engines, rotary chains, or other equipment to detect faulty operations or unusual well conditions.; Confer with others to gather information regarding pipe or tool sizes or borehole conditions in wells.

Gauger

Gaugers test oil during the processing and before dispatch. They control pumping systems and regulate the flow of oil into the pipelines.

Core workflow

  1. Maintain and perform safety inspections on equipment and tools.
  2. Listen to engines, rotary chains, or other equipment to detect faulty operations or unusual well conditions.
  3. Confer with others to gather information regarding pipe or tool sizes or borehole conditions in wells.
  4. Drive truck-mounted units to well sites.
  5. Install pressure-control devices onto wellheads.
  6. Thread cables through derrick pulleys, using hand tools.
  7. Operate pumps that circulate water, oil, or other fluids through wells to remove sand or other materials obstructing the free flow of oil.
  8. Close and seal wells no longer in use.
