host-hostess Occupational skill for the role 'host/hostess' (also: hostess, host, airport host, airport hostess, airport host/hostess). Use when the user asks for typical host/hostess work such as: Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seatings.; Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service, to respond to complaints, or to make conversation.; Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls.

Host/Hostess

Hosts/hostesses welcome and inform visitors at airports, train stations, hotels, exhibitions fairs, and function events and/or attend to passengers in the mean of transport.

Core workflow

  1. Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seatings.
  2. Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service, to respond to complaints, or to make conversation.
  3. Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls.
  4. Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper setup.
  5. Inspect restrooms for cleanliness and availability of supplies, and clean restrooms when necessary.
  6. Take and prepare to-go orders.
  7. Assist other restaurant workers by serving food and beverages, or by bussing tables.
  8. Provide guests with menus.
